557This paper begins with a brief reflection on the immense importance of the question of image in Neoplatonic metaphysics. Following recent publications on the subject, it aims to highlight the pervasiveness and importance of figures of likness, even in the texts that lie at the origins of the Platonic tradition, such as Plato’s dialogues. Thanks to the likness that pervades all of nature, nothing is truly different. The process of going back from the caused to the causer reveals the intimate connection ("syngeneia") between all things, as Plato demonstrated in "Meno" (81c-d): nature is all related to itself. In Plato, everything is an image, except for the idea itself. This is precisely why it is necessary to use images to speak of ideas. The "Corpus Platonicum" is thus examined for three types of images: images that represent ideas or the universe; images that present themselves to the discerning gaze of the true philosopher; images that represent the soul and virtue, men and gods.
