The forum, just as the monographic section of this special issue, is based on a workshop held in Vienna in April 2024. The three-volume work "A Delicate Choreography. Incest Discourses and Kinship Practices", published by David Sabean in 2023, is therefore the starting point for the following reflections. Colleagues and long-standing companions of Sabean from various disciplines were invited to critically engage with "A Delicate Choreography" and discuss it with the author. In a tone that is at times personal, historian Jon Mathieu, contemporary historian Dorothee Wierling, historian of science Hans-Jörg Rheinberger, and literary scholars Mary Lindemann and Nacim Ghanbari discuss specific aspects of incest discourses and kinship practices. They contextualize the work within David Sabean’s broader oeuvre, explore different approaches, and offer additional perspectives and viewpoints from their own research domains to stimulate further discussion and inquiry.
