Michelstaedter examined the human living condition in the early XXcentury. His position is very critical towards education, because it aims to obtainreliable and submissive citizens. Education is a dishonest practice that deludes youngmen and leads them to an alienated life, subjected to the rules of “rhetoric”. Thestudent, motivated by prizes and punishments, only studies for the future, withoutliving the present time. Michelstaedter’s theory anticipates topics and questions thatwill be reprised by existentialists and by pedagogical dissenters.
