In Italy, the prison system provides specific protections for incarcerated mothers. This contribution illustrates, with the support of empirical material, the applicability and potential impact of non-medical perinatal support figures, such as doulas, in creating a safe and reassuring environment through continuous support and the promotion of the mother-child relationship within female prison facilities.
