This article discusses nominal verb forms, which vary greatly in fusional languages. It examines their place on the verb-noun continuum, by considering both typology and, to some extent, formal frameworks. The analysis focuses on participles, deverbal adjectives, event and result nominals, as well as agent nominals, since they all use lexemes that express actions for modification and reference purposes. The differences between these non-prototypical categories are studied at both morphosyntactic and semantic levels. The article compares terms from the Greco-Latin grammatical tradition with contemporary linguistic concepts.
