Baskin, a modified form of basketball, has grown significantly in the last two decades and promotes inclusivity, equity, and diversity in sports. This paper examines Baskin’s impact in a small village in Southern Italy, where it was introduced to enhance the social participation of marginalized groups, including individuals with disabilities, young migrants, and people with mental health or substance abuse challenges. The research evaluates Baskin’s influence on individual and collective well-being through a concurrent transformative mixed-method design prioritizing qualitative data. Data collection involved in-depth interviews, a brief survey, and ego-network analysis to explore socio-demographics, health, sports history, emotions, relationships, and perceptions of Baskin’s introduction in schools. Initial findings highlight the importance of shared time and space in strengthening social bonds, though opportunities outside the court may be limited. Baskin has positively impacted self-confidence, self-esteem, group dynamics, and family relationships, enhancing both individual and team well-being. Moreover, its integration into schools is seen as vital for broader dissemination. Baskin fosters new social networks and social capital; however, its success remains delicate, requiring ongoing effort to maintain and expand its reach. These insights underscore Baskin’s potential to drive social change while emphasizing the need for sustained support, that must involve organizations, local community and private and public institutions.
