594Throughout 2024, an educational project called Bushido was undertaken in Montevideo, Uruguay, involving the Uruguayan state school system, the National Sports Secretariat (SND), and the Higher Institute of Physical Education (ISEF) of the University of the Republic (UDELAR). The primary objective was to create a space for the production and democratisation of knowledge among researchers, teachers, families, and schoolchildren, based on a teaching unit on fighting (martial arts and combat sports) grounded in four principles of the Bushido code: respect, justice, honour, and honesty. In this way, the project aimed to address three common misconceptions about martial arts and combat sports: 1. that they create violent individuals; 2. that they are useful for self-defence; 3. that they are absent from Uruguayan culture. This text, in particular, aims to analyse the experience using the theories of the public arena (Archetti, 1984) and bodily movement culture (Bracht and Caparroz, 2009).
