675This study tries to ask a central question: «how is Africa’s entry into the space sector reshaping its economic growth, its strategic autonomy and its role in the global space economy».Across the continent, space exploration has moved from dream to reality. In just two decades, several countries have created agencies, launched satellites and developed programs aimed at food security, resource protection, connectivity as well as climate resistance. What emerges is a story of determination, start-ups, universities and young engineers are driving innovation, while partnerships with Europe, the United States, Turkey, China and Russia add both energy and complexity. Africa’s space ambitions are not only about technology; they are also about sovereignty, identity, and a stronger voice in world affairs. Yet ambition brings risk.Foreign dependence, opaque contracts, and dual-use systems can blur the line between civilian and military goals, threatening sovereignty instead of reinforcing it. In this delicate balance, Europe and Italy in particular, has a unique role. Through the Mattei Plan and its network of dynamic smes, Italy can be a genuine partner, building collaborations rooted in technology transfer, education, and long-term development. The choices made today will shape not only Africa’s future in space, but also its place in the evolving global order. «The statements, analyses and conclusions presented in this publication are the sole responsibility of the author.
