This article deals with the birth of the concept of "proprietas" in the writing "Diritto Universale" by Giambattista Vico. The resulting hierarchization of society and the rise of conflicts do not prevent Vico from envisioning the constitution of a civil order that, following the model of ancient Rome based on the idea of the "ratio" intrinsic to the Law, can finally affirm the achievement of the harmony and the sociopolitical balance of the community.
