This study maps participatory governance models in cultural heritage and tourism across Italy, focusing on Special Public-Private Partnerships, Community Cooperatives, and participatory Destination Management Organizations (DMO). Using ArcGIS Online and interactive Web GIS (Geographical Information System) tools, the research integrates geospatial and organizational data to provide a comparative and dynamic representation of governance practices. The project is accompanied by an online StoryMap designed as an updatable tool to enable the continuous integration of new data. The analysis draws on multiple sources, including existing partial databases, sector reports, and expert consultations, in order to construct an integrated and original dataset. It also incorporates ISTAT data on territorial indicators, such as the classification of inner areas, tourism arrivals, and cultural infrastructure. The results reveal a widespread yet uneven distribution of participatory governance models, with significant concentrations in inland areas. This pattern highlights the role of participatory governance as a driver of cultural stewardship and social innovation, in particular in fragile and peripheral territories.
