This article analyses the history of the monetary policies of the Italian trusteeship in Somalia (Afis) focusing the attention on the planning and conception phase (1948-1950). It particularly demonstrates, through the reconstruction of the main interventions in the monetary field, the persistence of a colonialist approach in the economic-monetary management of Somalia by the Italian administrators.
