0The city of Ancona, rich of material evidence of Early Christian Era, preserves few material traces of Early Middle Ages liturgical furnishings, mostly in the collections of the Diocesan Museum. Through the examination of photographic archives, used not as a simple series of historical images, but as documents rich in informations, indispensable for the reconstruction of a historical fabric strongly stratified over time or irremediably lost, it is possible to reconstruct a much richer picture of testimonies, throwing the foundations for a reconstruction of artistic production in the Lombard and Carolingian phases in the important Adriatic city, with particular focus on two ecclesiastical centres: Santa Maria della Piazza and the disappeared cathedral of San Lorenzo.
