After the earthquake that shook the Belice Valley in 1968, Lorenzo Barbera organized a network of individuals and associations engaged in the aftermath of the event. Barbera was already the director of Belice Valley Study Center, that had been created after the break with Dolci’s Center. This article highlights similarities and differences between the two of them. It also reflects on the changes in the development of the underdeveloped areas theories and on the relationship between the heterodox Left of the 1950s-1960s and the new generation of the 1968 Movement
