The Sections of State Archives, established by Presidential Decree n. 1409 of 1963, were born as an extension of the Subsections of Sections of State Archives regulated by Law 2006/1939 which were suppressed with the birth of the new archival institute. If the subsections were erected by the will of the municipalities, which took charge of personnel expenses and other needs and which kept their historical archive there together with other state-type documentation, the sections inherited the documentation of the subsections, making them an “anomalousµ case in the panorama of Italian archival administration.
