346The introduction of History of Art as a subject in the secondary schools of Spain and Italy has different itineraries, times and modes. The institutional transition has decreed its disciplinary appearance in both countries, independently of the teaching aimed at the education of the artist. By comparing the very first curricula, their gestation, content, structure and objectives we reconstruct the history of a discipline that has had a laborious regulatory configuration, evaluating its real didactic-pedagogical implications.
