At the dawn of the 18th century in Macerata, the noble De Vico family commissioned Giovanni Anastasi to decorate several rooms on the first floor of their residence. The pictorial cycle, a vibrant Baroque tapestry of historical, mythological and literary themes, celebrates the prestige and the power of the patron family, emphasizing their ambitious marital policy and refined scholarly taste. This contribution aims to clarify and interpret the iconography of the frieze in one of the rooms central to the undertaking: the so-called Stanza di Augusto (Room of Augustus), named after episodes from the life of the first emperor painted in monochrome at the base of the vault.
