In the digital era, cybersecurity is crucial for maintaining national security, economic stability, and public safety. The energy sector is particularly vulnerable due to its increasing digitalisation, as evidenced by high-profile cyberattacks such as Stuxnet and the 2021 Us pipeline ransomware attack. This study uses an in-depth qualitative analysis to evaluate cybersecurity within the Italian energy sector, identifying best practices, strengths, and limitations in the implementation of cybersecurity policies to prevent cyber incidents and ensure the resilience of energy infrastructures. The findings reveal disparities between organisations based on their maturity levels, which often correlate with the size and significance of the organisation.
