This essay arises from the attempt to delve into a topic that has been little addressed by historiography: the stay of the first illustrious resident at the ancient property corresponding to the present-day Quirinal Palace, Paul III Farnese. Although only a guest, he was the first Pope, as well as the first Head of State, to live and die in this residence. This research originates from the examination of a rental contract for the so-called «vigna di Napoli» at Monte Cavallo, now known as the Quirinal hill, a property named as such because it belonged to the powerful Neapolitan family of Carafa.
