When reconstructing the history of independent Libya, it becomes opportune to consider a multiplicity of sources among which the printed production in Arabic plays a central role, proving to be a source of considerable interest as a vehicle for competing anti-colonialist, nationalist, pro-Sanūsi, and anti-monarchist sentiments and projects. This contribution aims to investigate the role of the Arabic-language press in the reconstructing and narrating the path that led to independence and the establishment of the first monarchical period. Emphasis will be placed on newspapers, pamphlets and journals that circulated regionally and were intercepted by the former colonial powers, which were still interested in and acted in North Africa from an openly bipolar perspective. The aim of this analysis is twofold: on the one hand to discuss the relevance of print production as an expression of competing political agendas. On the other hand, to study publishing as a means of interpreting, constructing and conditioning public opinion in the local, regional and international context.
