This contribution aims to reflect on knowledge construction processes regarding labour exploitation and their impact on the way various public and private actors introduce responses to it. The study, based on a social innovation approach, observes recent regulatory developments in the interstitial space that exploitation occupies, at the intersection of criminal, labour, migration and social policy law. It is empirically grounded in the collaborative research strategies experimented in the Common Ground project, aiming to contribute to the creation of an integrated referral system led by the public sector, promoted by the Italian National Guide lines for the identification, protection and assistance of victims of labour exploitation in agriculture. It emphasises the need to overcome the fragmentation between different disciplines on this issue, and to bridge the distance between knowledge creation spaces and decision-making and operational spaces in which responses are articulated. By mapping sectors and processes at the micro, meso and macro levels, the study underlines the need to invest in spaces of co-creation and circulation of knowledge and intervention. The study gives examples of such connective spaces between knowledge and practice, drawing from practices implemented during the Common Ground project, and offers recommendations to consolidate multi-agency thought and action.
