Moving from the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of "Narayan et al. v. Azerbaijan", this paper offers some considerations on the application of human rights treaties in the context of armed conflicts, focusing on the relationship between international human rights (IHRL) and humanitarian law (IHL). In doing so, it addresses three main issues, that have been either overlooked or wrongly decided by the Strasbourg Judges: first, the application of IHL due to the ongoing, at the relevant time, international armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan; second, the exercise of extraterritorial jurisdiction by State authorities under the 'personal model'; third, the coordination of IHRL and IHL for the purposes of the right to life.
