The paper reflects on the effects of the abolition of the crime of abuse of office by Law No. 114 of 2024, and focuses on the resulting problems in the relationship between citizens and public administration. The central issue analyzed concerns the capacity of the various mechanisms within the administrative system to address the decline in criminal oversight of public officials’ abuse of power. The resulting picture, in light of a detailed analysis of the various remedies and resources of the corruption prevention system, is one of a clear weakening of the guarantees of correctness and impartiality in public action.
