313The complex cultural parabola of Claudio Baglioni (Rome, 1951) within the national imaginary has shaped him from an icon of good feelings to a "cantautore" included in the canon of "canzone d’autore" recognized by Italy’s major cultural institution for this genre, making these two trajectories converge over time in the tensions that still characterize his medial identity today. In this essay, after defining the framework of the cultural mediatization of singer-songwriters, we will reconstruct Baglioni’s path in historical and diachronic terms, highlighting the difficulties he encountered in establishing himself and being recognized as a "cantautore", the acting and performing trajectories of his icon, and the different imaginaries of his figure that have alternated over time, from his recording debut (1970) to the awarding of the Premio Tenco (2022). It will emerge how the tools of cultural studies applied in this proposed framework can be particularly useful for a more general understanding of the cultural phenomena linked to the world of Italian song, which has always been the subject of aesthetic disputes that often depart from historical and social analyses.
