The paper explores the evolution of the relationship between independent administrative authorities and political power in the context of the European integration and its impact on constitutional law. It analyzes structural and functional independence, highlighting the tensions between autonomy and democratic accountability. In light of European Union law and the case law of the Court of Justice, independence is understood both as a key constitutional safeguard and as a multi-level institutional mechanism. The importance of professional competence and the quality of appointment procedures is emphasized, and a renewed role for parliamentary oversight is advocated, given the growing impact of Eu law on the definition of independence standards.
