146For many decades, the Italian Constitutional Court refused to play any role in the enforcement of Eu law within the Italian legal order, leaving this task to the ordinary courts. In recent years, however, the Court has reclaimed a role in this field, by treating Eu norms as standards for the constitutional review of Italian legislation. In doing so, the Court presents itself as a partner — alongside the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights — in a shared endeavour to establish common standards for the protection of fundamental rights across the European legal space.
