In this essay published in 1954, the two authors severely criticize the absence of a trade unions culture in Italian studies and social practice, compared with the Anglo-Saxon experience in Industrial relations studies. They analyse this phenomenon in the context of the three main political-ideal areas of the moment: the Marxist, the liberal and the catholic, for each one individuating the specific reasons contrasting a modern and comprehensive approach to trade unions practice. Eventually they conclude suggesting the development of research and studies – in Universities but not only – integrating legal, sociological and economic approach.
