This contribution engages with current debates on the contested figure of Christopher Columbus and the material legacies of his memory. Drawing on an in-depth interview with director Valerio Ciriaci and producer/cinematographer Isaak Liptzin, creators of the documentary "Stonebreakers" (2022), it explores how questions of identity, belonging, and collective memory are negotiated through monuments and symbolic public landscapes. In doing so, it interrogates what it means to confront the past and who has the authority to narrate it.
