The goal of this paper is to face the problem of classifying cognitive artifacts. We introduce it as a kind of a more general problem, namely the classification of artifacts. Specifically, we analyze R. Heersmink's recent proposal for a cognitive artifacts taxonomy (2013). Starting from some weaknesses of the proposal we formulate some steps towards an alternative taxonomy, based on the relation between cognitive artifacts and cognitive structures.
