The article revolves around the opposition between politics, as it is usually thought in the Western tradition, and Baglietto's idea of conscience, which tends to go beyond any kind of political distincion. Furthermore, Baglietto's idea of conscience wants to include, not only human beings, but also animals. The article demonstrates how, for Baglietto, nonviolence and vegetarianism are strictly intertwined and why he welcomes suggestions from the Eastern world. Hias idea of conscience is also investigated as an answer to the so-called declined of the West. at the same time, the article shows how Baglietto aims to elaborate his idea of conscience starting from Giovanni Gentile's position and criticizing some Hidegger's views. It is the notion of politics in itself which is tackled by Baglietto. Although he is undoubtedly antifascist, he is not only that. Baglietto rejects any idea of politics which, according to Schimitt's conception, is based on the distinction between friend and enemy.
