The essay analyses the current scenario of workplace innovation in the context of Italian SMEs, both in terms of skills required and the development of skills to be acquired in the immediate future. In this regard, some lines of reflection are drawn on the developments expected in the coming times and a proposal about the revitalization of traditional institutions and Organizations, such as business networks and trade unions. Precisely the latter, in a perspective that is partly innovative with respect to the current debate, are seen as useful tools for building, in companies, a culture of trust and collaboration, where innovation is seen as a shared opportunity and not as a source of conflict.
