In this article, the authors clarify the nature of ecological Marxism, first distinguishing it from the better-known concept of ecosocialism and then defining its essential features from Marx and Engels’ thought. In the discussion, some working hypotheses are advanced regarding the uses of ecomarxism for the current debate on planetary boundaries and the safe and just space for humanity
