This note on Giacomo Leopardi’s "Infinito" explores the poet’s secular and creative engagement with ideas drawn from Aristotle, Dante as well as from the Christian traditions. Central to this reflection is the notion that a state of physical stillness serves as a precursor to contemplation. In the conclusion of the poem, which mirrors its opening, Leopardi adopts a language steeped in mystical tradition. However, as the poet himself notes, this is an 'arbitrary' usage, shaped by his own interpretive freedom.
