Causal dimensions are defined as the properties underlying causal attributions and include the locus of causality, causal stability, and control. These dimensions have proven to be crucial in shaping people’s emotions and behavior following an event, more than the attribution itself. The revised Causal Dimension Scale (CDSII) is recognized as the most effective tool for the direct assessment of causal dimensions owing to its brevity and sound psychometric properties. The present study outlines the process of translating the CDSII into Italian and validating it in a purposive sample of 652 Italian adults from the general population. The scale underwent translation and back-translation to reach a prefinal version, which was then tested on a small sample of respondents. The final version was subsequently administered to 506 individuals. Factorial analyses were conducted on the gathered data to confirm the equivalence of the translated scale to the original one in terms of structure. Concurrent validity and internal consistency of the subscales were also assessed, suggesting that the Italian version of the CDSII is a reliable and valid measure of causal dimensions.
