The essay investigates the plural and 'overdetermined' palinsesto of Leonardo Sciascia’s novel "Candido ovvero Un sogno fatto in Sicilia" (1977). Linking the great hypotext of "Candide ou L’optimisme" by Voltaire to an intertextual network of surprising complexity (Celsus, Dostoevsky, Stendhal, Shakespeare, Joyce, etc.), Sciascia systematically undermines the relationship between original and rewrite, model and simulacrum: it follows a real theory of artistic 'fatherhood' and transmission, which expresses maybe in the most radical way the anoedipal and hyperliterary instances that run through all the production of Sciascia, especially in the Seventies.
