This essay focuses on the long and complex textual elaboration of "Un amore fraterno", Carla Cerati’s debut novel, published in 1973. The writer completed the first draft of the novel in 1963 and sent it to Italo Calvino, under the pseudonym of Barbara Lega; thereafter began a collaboration that led to numerous rewritings during ten years, at the end of which the book appeared to be completely transformed. This study aims to highlight and examine the guidelines of this very evolution.
