This essay focuses on the figure of an eccentric writer, Giuseppe Marcenaro: considered a scholar of literary minutiae and a refined bibliophile, he has not yet been investigated as he deserves, in the light of his literary production. Averse to plots, narrative intrigues and literary genres, he wrote a final tetralogy, reworking old and new texts and giving them a more 'metaphysical' flavor. No longer literary curiosities, but pieces of his existential story, to be read as a relationship with the primary foundations of being in the world. We will therefore try to probe the work of the last Marcenaro, comparing it with the myth he had of the French writer Stendhal.
