Starting from the new Italian edition of the first book of Marx’s "Capital" (ed. by R. Fineschi, Torino, 2024), the article discusses the theoretical status of Marx’s critique of political economy (with particular reference to the functioning of the 'logic' of capital), Marx’s scientific method, and the decisive role played by dialectics within it. In this context, the discussion of the relationship between Marx and Hegel emerges as especially significant, and more specifically, the Hegelian legacy present in "Capital" and the sense in which Marx’s 'materialist inversion' of Hegel’s work and his understanding of dialectics should be understood.
