The metaverse is an entirely new world. This becomes evident when we look particularly at law and economics. If it is true, as Carl Schmitt says, that law is 'nomos of the earth' ["Nomos der Erde"], with the metaverse it is precisely the earth that disappears. Equally significant are the questions raised about economics. This essay focuses on cryptocurrencies as a particularly substantial phenomenon within the metaverse. It questions the foundations of the virtual currency market, the issue of their counterfeiting, and the risks of a currency and a world without territoriality, challenging the beliefs about democracy, certainty, and the durability of virtual currencies.
