22This article challenges the anti-Marxist interpretation of Michel Foucault’s thought in the early 1970s, arguing that such a reading leads to insurmountable logical and historical difficulties. Drawing on the work of Stéphane Legrand, I first reconstruct the key aspects of the standard reading of Foucault’s «microphysics of power», showing that when interpreted solely in opposition to Marxism, it becomes vulnerable to both amphibology and contradiction. In the second part, I argue that Foucault’s Discipline and Punish (1975) both presupposes and transforms the Marxian concepts of «labour-power» and «class struggle». This hypothesis is supported by what I refer to as the «Marxist heresy» that haunts Foucault’s lectures at the Collège de France between 1971 and 1975.
