This article highlights the need to renew mental health care by reintroducing a phenomenological and humanistic approach. In contrast to the increasing technicalization and standardization of psychiatry and psychology, the paper advocates for a return to person-centred care, inspired by the legacy of Franco Basaglia and Eugenio Borgna. It focuses on the relevance of existential dimensions – such as temporality, spatiality, and lived meaning – in understanding mental distress. Special attention is given to the «grammar of time» as a key to interpreting personal experience, with reference to autism and other forms of vulnerability, proposing a renewed integration of philosophy and clinical practice.
