The article focuses on the risk of confusing gender identity with the construct of sexual role. It also highlights how gender dysphoria does not derive from existing psychopathologies, since it seems to be gender dysphoria that defines the feeling of discomfort and profound suffering that a subject experiences in relation to the misalignment between self-perception and sex assigned at birth.
