123The global movement advocating for climate action includes KlimaSeniorinnen, a group of Swiss senior women who, on the basis of their vulnerable age and gender, in 2016 filed a legal request against the Swiss authorities claiming insufficient protection of their health. After dismissal at the national level, KlimaSeniorinnen pursued their advocacy and submitted their case to the European Court of Human Rights, which ruled on 9th April 2024 that Switzerland had violated human rights through climate inaction. This study adopts a Critical Multimodal Discourse Studies approach to analyse how verbal and visual resources combine in the representation of climate conflict in the Verein KlimaSeniorinnen and Others v. Switzerland case in the micro-blogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Tweets in English containing the term KlimaSeniorinnen were collected via WebDataRA and analysed as multimodal artefacts to examine how verbal and visual resources combine to frame the KlimaSeniorinnen climate conflict. This study highlights the role of discursive legitimation of climate protest in digital platforms and argues the centrality of multimodal studies for understanding the discursive construction of climate crisis and conflict.
