The paper is focussed on an interesting and authoritative proposal issued by Paolo Pontari, and developed together with Gabriella Albanese, which aims to revise Dante’s final refuge, traditionally located in Ravenna, by suggesting instead the nearby Abbey of Pomposa. Furthermore, the two scholars revisit and expand upon the chronology of Dante’s final stay – allegedly in Pomposa – dating its beginning to the final months of 1319. While recognising the significance of these authoritative, legitimate, and well-argued proposals, a reexamination of the surviving documentation highlights that the traditional Ravenna residence and the early months of 1320 seem to match more closely the available evidence, even though no certainty can be asserted to date.
