The pursuit of a world without war and environmental destruction is ultimately a quest for a life after capitalism. This is a multilevel transitional process that requires a world politics capable of addressing heterogeneous conditions of domination and exploitation while articulating a common desire for liberation. In this piece we start by contrasting the notions of transition and apocalypse and we go on to discuss proliferating transitions in the present, with a focus on geopolitical, ecological, and energy transitions. Against this background we emphasize the need to reframe the vexed question of the transition to communism.
