110Climate change represents one of the most imposing challenges of the XXI century, but understanding of climate-related socio-economic and transition risks still remains limited. This deficiency is negatively reflected in the design of effective climate policies. The essay emphasises the need for an interdisciplinary and systemic approach to tackle climate change. According to the authors, climateeconomy models based on complex systems are a promising starting point to fill the epistemological gaps in climate change. The analysis highlights how these models can capture both the extreme costs of climate change and the emergence of tipping points, where unmitigated emissions cause growth crashes and systemic instability. From this perspective, the urgency of more timely and ambitious policy interventions than suggested by conventional models emerges.
