237From tip to tip of the American continent, in large cities as well as in smaller towns, the consumption of natural and synthetic drugs has expanded far beyond the common imagination, also psychologically connoting the lifestyle of large sections of the populations. It contaminates the everyday actions of children and adults, men and women of all social classes. It multiplies abnormal behaviors that disturb the quiet and security of entire neighborhoods, pushes the pitfalls of petty crime to continual expansion, and alters the perception of security of individuals and communities in daily life from hyper-urbanism from California to semi-desert but not immune Patagonia. These are fears that now constitute a factor capable of directly affecting the political moods of communities and the consequent election results of the most exposed areas.
