The contribution presents the initial findings of a research study on the Unrra-Casas village in San Basilio, designed by Mario Fiorentino and built between 1951 and 1955. Due to its variety of building types, urban composition, green space design, and attention to construction and finishing details, the project stands as one of the most significant expressions of a profound architectural and urban culture. This approach aimed to provide diverse responses to the difficult housing conditions in Rome after World War II. By retracing the key phases that led to the design of the San Basilio village, the study highlights the characteristics of a built heritage that has been systematically altered over the years compared to the original project. The ongoing research seeks to contribute to a preparatory study for targeted strategies of protection and conservation. The goal is to preserve an important testimony to the architectural culture of residential design.
