101Restoration and reinstallation works at the Museum of Roman Ships in Nemi began last spring, twenty-five years after its last reopening. Led by museum director Daniela De Angelis and supported by Massimo Osanna and the Regional Directorate Museums Lazio of the Ministry of Culture, this project marks a new chapter for the building. The paper, based on studies carried out by the Roma Tre University research group as part of the broader activities of the Documentation and Study Centre at the Museum of Roman Ships, investigates the complex genesis of Vittorio Morpurgo’s project, its earlier precedents, and the museum’s subsequent transformations following the 1944 fire. By integrating archival sources with the building’s history, the article provides new documentation that could be useful for the upcoming restoration work and and the redesign of the museum’s exhibition layout.
