Discussing in the critical note José Emilio Burucúa’s book ("Civilización. Historia de un concepto", 2024), this contribution takes some of its insights for a comprehensive history of political concepts. What comes into question, to 'provincialise Europe' (Chakrabarthy), is a quest to treat political concepts as signifiers with many entrances, to assume the point of view of the heterogeneous (Braudel), to proceed to a spatialization of discursive communities and to treat them as conflictual fields within which hegemonic and counterhegemonic processes are produced.
