366Considering the overwhelming mass of reductionist research on Tolkien’s work the article retraces how he shapes and transforms his criterion of truth of fairy-stories and myths. The aim was to offer criteria for picking accurate scientific approaches to Tolkien’s work. Inspired by Patrick Curry’s scientific attitude towards Tolkien’s oeuvre, the essay turned to the author himself to overcome scientific analyses only justifying themselves, their particular methods and standards. Tolkien used old stylistic elements – wonder, enchantment, sub-creation and eucatastrophe – to criticise modern one-dimensional life and sciences. The article’s approach opened up further possible topics and questions.
